Latest News: National Assembly approves Fair-Trial Bill 2012
ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Thursday approved the ‘Fair Trial Bill 2012’, Geo News reported.
The bill, tabled by Law Minister Farooq Naek, was approved following incorporation of amendments proposed by the PML-N and MQM.
Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf said the main purpose of the bill was to eliminate terrorism from the country. “The bill will be useful to send a message to terrorists that the country was united against them.”
The prime minister added that the bill was an indication that Pakistan was supportive of its security forces. “The bill will protect the ordinary citizen from terrorists,” Prime Minister Ashraf said.
The bill paves the way for the government to tap phones and use e-mails and text messages as proof in trials.
