A screenshot of Microsoft‘s Windows Phone 8.1 update has leaked online.
The small image suggests that the smartphone marker will introduce on-screen buttons to its operating system for the first time.
Existing devices using Windows Phone already have the three buttons available below the screen, but a move to on-screen buttons would help future handset makers keep manufacturing costs down.
Little else is currently known about Windows Phone 8.1, although previous reports suggest it will come with a notification centre, improved multitasking and upgrades to built-in apps.
Microsoft is expected to unveil its next operating system update in full at Microsoft Build conference on April 2, 2014.
