The 2014 BMW M3 and M4 have been unveiled prior to their official debut at the Detroit motor show next month. The closely related cars go on sale in the UK next June, with prices starting at £56,175 for the M3 saloon and £56,635 for the M4 Coupé.
BMW’s decision to introduce the 4 Series name for the coupé version of the 3 Series means that the two models wear different badges, but they are all but identical under the skin.
Both are powered by a turbocharged engine – a first for the M3. The new 3.0-litre, six-cylinder unit develops 425bhp – 11bhp more than the outgoing M3’s naturally aspirated 4.0-litre V8.
Drive is to the rear wheels; a six-speed manual gearbox is standard and BMW’s seven-speed M DCT double-clutch transmission is an option.
