Samsung is reportedly planning to rival Google Glass with a wearable head device of its own. According to The Korea Times, the smartphone giant is preparing to launch the headgear dubbed ‘Galaxy Glass’ as early as September at the IFA show in Berlin.
“The market potential for smart glass is huge. It will be used in trucks, cars and has a greater impact on related industries such as glass – and coatings-makers,” a Samsung official told the publication. “The smart glass will present our aim to lead the new market with proven capability. Wearable devices can’t generate profits immediately. Steady releases of devices are showing our firm commitment as a leader in new markets.” The South Korean company has apparently already registered a patent in the country for its device. Much like Google Glass, it is said to be capable of linking up with a smartphone – presumably to a Samsung handset much like the Galaxy Gear smartwatch.
